Mount Komati River Lodge & Hiking Trails, Mpumalanga, South Africa
This is an owner run nature farm situated on the Drakensberg Mountain Escarpment between Machadodorp and Badplaas.
It really is "a Perfect little Mountain Hide-Away."
Staff
Our philosophy is "If the team is happy and enjoy our work and environment, then our guests will also be happy here by us" and thus we are continuously exploring new ways of making life better for all of us. (See our "Projects" here below)
Three young male staff are employed. Apart from the general work that a farm demands, Micky, Themba & Nhlanhla also makes sure that the trails are well maintained and that your accommodation facilities are spotless clean and beautiful for when you arrive. At least one of them is on duty every weekend to assist in and around the camp if necessary.
They will also be available if you need a private job done like washing a car, clothes or dishes perhaps. Negotiate directly with them.
Pieta is the manager and lives on the property.
Projects
Education and teamwork takes priority and we are constantly trying to introduce stimulating projects that we all can share in, like the following:
The guys will be selling you fire wood. Since we are preserving our natural, indigenous environment and do not have any exotic trees on our property, we are buying all of our fire wood from a neighboring farm, which in turn is then sold to our guests. In this manner they learn to manage their income. I am teaching them to drive and the "wood bucks" goes toward their petrol fund for practicing in their off time and to eventually pay for their tests, hopefully all legal, hehe! In fact, one of them has already passed his test and has now been promoted to company driver! Congrats, Micky!Accommodation
On offer is a cozy, private lodge consisting of 4 stone & thatch huts with accommodation facilities for groups of up to 20 people, both in dorm-style huts, or fully equipped self catering chalets. There is also a communal kitchen, communal ablution block for the 2 dorm style chalets, braai/lounge, outside braai area and African style boma - Die Bosvark - for lekker kuiers.
Activities
2 x Hiking trails, professionally laid out and built.
River & pond fly fishing.
Bird & game watching,
Leisure & relaxation!
We are not big on activity here, rather complete unwinding from the stresses of this world, but other activities you may want to enjoy include playing in the river - so bring your inner tubes / lilos / inflatables - or even mountain biking, if you just can't do without it. A picnic up in the mountains can be a great idea, also star gazing, we have a wonderful night sky here so prepare for any of this if you are so inclined.
Special activities such as hot springs, slides, day spa with professional massages, manicures & pedicures etc is only 40 minute's drive away.
Situated on the banks of the Komati river - home to the sought after Wild River Yellow Fish - makes this a great fly fishing destination for the more skilled fisherman. Small scale & large scale yellow fish are some of the most difficult fresh water species in SA to catch, but then so much more the reward! Get your gear in order, go into stealth mode, and then don't be too surprised if the big fighter yellow violently tucks on your fly!
This is the perfect spot to be used as a private hide-away where one can completely unwind and where the kids can still experience outdoorsy nature fun. In fact, it's so peaceful here that one's very own true inner self tends to find YOU!
Catering
The lodge is mainly self catering, but a set menu can also be catered for in certain cases.
Management and staff alike are looking forward to welcoming you here by us!
Make sure you depart on the due date
